CHRISTIAN LACROIX the costumier exhibition in Singapore

Christian Marie Marc Lacroix is a high-end French fashion designer.
At a young age he began sketching historical costumes and fashions. Lacroix is a very innovative designer; he is good at mix and match of material together to form his creations. His stage costumes show the close link between haute couture and the performing arts in France. Costume design is regarded as a key factor that contributes to the overall success of a performance. We hope that the exhibition can further inspire our performing arts groups, especially those in theatre, drama and opera, to even higher levels

My Uncle from Penang was here for 4 days 3 night.....

Last Friday, my uncle who lived in Penang was here in Johor because of Qing Ming Festival and He was here for 4 days and 3 nights. My uncle reached my cousin’s home around 1.30pm and as usual he will sleep right after his lunch. After his nap, my uncle and my family went to pray at my maternal grandma’s grave. We had our dinner at home and chat with our uncle for awhile. By 9pm he wanted to go back to my cousin’s home. We were wondering why he had to be back by 9pm and we were guessing my uncle going to chat with another family of his over the phone which is his normal routine.

Second day of his visit, we didn’t go anywhere with my uncle as my brother and my sister in law were here to check out bridal shops and restaurant which they are planning to hold their wedding ceremony next year. At night, we went to new lucky restaurant for dinner to celebrate my aunt’s birthday and back at home we sang her birthday song and blowing candles on the cake. We were very impish and decided to play a joke with our uncle. My uncle was asking is it my birthday and we told him “yes” and ask him for a red packet. Haha, my uncle felled for our trick and gave me a red packet which contain rm$60. We didn’t intend to tell him the truth, as we know that he won’t give my aunty any red packet even we told him the truth.

Third day of his visit, we planned to visit my maternal grandpa’s grave. The grave had grown a lot of grass and there were a lot of insects hidden inside of the glass. SO GROSS, my cousin and my uncle volute to clean up the place. Lucky, I didn’t go with them if not I can’t image why I will react when all the insects start crawling out. When on their way back, my uncle planned to go shopping on his own and he wanted my cousin to stop him at Kerry. My uncle went there for a few hours and he was back with a lot of kuehs, breads and yoghurt drinks. My uncle didn’t shared it with my family, he finish all this by himself. I cant believed my uncle was such a big appetizer as he keep telling us that he has cut down the amount of food he eat due to old age but doesn’t seem to be true. When at night, we went for duck noodles for dinner as we will pass by Carrefour grad some offer items.

Last day of his visit, early in the morning, my mum and the rest of my relative went to pray at my maternal great grandma’s grave. My cousin ‘Ah Tong ko ko’ offers to drive my uncle to bus stop in the evening so that my uncle can board bus to sinar airport but my uncle rejected his offer. In the end, my cousin need to drive him to sinar airport and the traffic was bad due to peak hour. Have a safe trip and see you soon……….my uncle.

Qing Ming Festival

Qing Ming festival is around the corner, we have to go and pray our grandparents as a form of memorial. In this festival, we have to sweep our ancestors’ grave, making offerings and burning ceremonial money. Joss paper is usually burnt, however, in some places it is not burnt but tossed into the air. Then there is the practice of placing a stone over pieces of yellow and white or multi-colored joss paper on the gravestone, the front of the grave and at the Hou Tu's alter. The offering of joss paper represents wealth given to the ancestors for use in the underworld - it also shows that the descendents have visited the graves. After sweeping the graves, families offer fruit and flowers to their ancestors and remember them in their hearts. This year, we decided to go to our grandparents’ graves one week before the actual day. As the actual day itself, the graveyards are crowded with people.

We set off early in the morning around 7am and the first stop was my grandma’s grave. Now then I realized that my grandma’s graves had a number engraved on it, the number was 87. We did a quick offering and praying, if I was not wrong, it took less than 30 minutes. Our next stop was my grandfather’s grave; it was a long journey from my grandma’s graves and took us 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach there. My grandfather’s grave number was 680 and lucky the weather was cooling; as I remember 2 years back when I was there, the weather was very hot and my parents and I were sweating liked a melting ice block. As usually, we did a quick praying and start burning the ceremonial money. It was time to go home and heated up the offering food for lunch.
